Ingeborg J. Hochmair, Doz., Dr.techn., Dr.med.h.c. mult., is the CEO of MED-EL. She is an electrical engineer with a venia legendi in Biomedical Engineering from the Technical University of Vienna. She and Erwin Hochmair developed the world’s first microelectronic multichannel cochlear implant, successfully implanted in Vienna in 1977. Following research at Stanford University and the University of Innsbruck, she co-founded MED-EL in 1990. As CEO and CTO, she has grown the company into a global leader in hearing and neuroprosthetic implants, with over 3000 employees and operations in 140+ countries. Her work focuses on translational research and innovation in fully implantable systems, robotic-assisted surgery, drug-eluting electrodes, and individualized hearing solutions. Dr. Hochmair has co-authored 120 publications and patents and received multiple honors, including five honorary doctorates and prestigious awards such as the Lasker~DeBakey Clinical Medical Research Award (2013) and the Russ Prize (2015).
